This project was a ‘hands on’ experience. Designed over 12 years ago, we got our hands dirty sourcing old timber paneling from a tannery which we used for the walls. I was working for a shopfitting company at the time, and in order to keep to the very tight schedule it was all hands on deck which saw me pulling out thousands of staples out of the old pieces of timber, and going to an old quarry and loading the van up with river stones and wheel-barrowing them into the store as the finishing touches were being done. No one could see the vision at the time, not even the installers, of how old bits of timber could work, but when the whole store was completed everyone was surprised and very pleased with the result.
