Harley’s Seafood | Marina Shopping Centre | Hope Island
Harley’s Seafood was the very first restaurant that we designed over 12 years ago on the Gold Coast. It has surprisingly remained my favourite and still retains a sense of simple beauty and elegance. The palette of colours and finishes were kept simple – dark warm timbers, white furniture and tablecloths, and silver. The silver lustrous curtains are slung over the ceiling in lengths and flutter in the breeze having been influenced by the shimmer of sunlight on the water at the marina. There is a little story that I like to relate about how unforseen events can actually be good. I think they call it serendipity. As the final touches were being fitted out the shopfitter called me to come onsite and check out his handywork as he had just installed the printed glass fish panels to the walls. When I arrived, the first thing that I noticed was that they were all upside down. Nobody including the Client had picked this up. After informing them all I suggested that we leave them upside down as they would be a point of conversation. However, the shopfitter unfortunately insisted on turning them the right way up, but at least I can still mention them now!
